This couple came to us with a bathroom that was poorly fitted and the layout was restricted by an archway between fittings which blocked natural light and contributed to an outdated appearance. They were very keen to have a makeover which would bring their bathroom bang up-to-date and were looking for a clean, airy but luxurious space.
We set to work aiming to design their room to maximize the space available, and thought this could be achieved by adjusting the layout and bringing down both the archway and a wall at the side. This would allow for a bigger shower area and also some valuable cupboard space for storage. Cad drawings allowed the couple to visualise what their room could look like, and they were thrilled at the design idea.
The fit took approximately 10 days to complete. We completed the building works first, stripping out all fixtures and fittings from the old bathroom and demolishing the wall and archway. Once the plumbing works were repositioned for the new layout, the room was then plastered and ready for fit. We installed a new wet room shower, bath, WC and wall-hung vanity unit with wash hand basin and coordinating storage. We also built in a bespoke made to measure storage cupboard in white gloss to house the boiler, to replace the old cupboard with louvre doors.
We replaced the UPVC ceiling and the tiler completed the look with a mixture of mosaic and carrara tile as per the customers choice. This wet room style shower area is an ideal design for customers with mobility issues as there is no step to negotiate to get into the shower. We have installed these in the past to adapt bathrooms for customers who have begun to struggle with independent showering due to a disability or who are just generally not as mobile as they once were.
This kind of adaptation can be valuable in the support of independent living in an aging population. Though this is not a requirement yet for this particular couple, they are overjoyed to have a bathroom with a sleek, clean finished look that they can enjoy now, with the added bonus that we have future-proofed their bathroom for the coming years.
